Our Founder
The son of Sir Sultan and Lady Sherbanoo, Mr. Amir. S. Chinoy was born in Bombay on 10th September 1921. He migrated to Pakistan in 1948, shortly after his marriage to Almas, daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Munawar Khan Afridi, on 9th February 1947.
Introducing and establishing concerns in heavy chemicals (Pak Chemicals Limited), electrical cables (Pakistan Cables Limited), and steel pipes (International Industries Limited), Mr. Amir S. Chinoy was a pioneer of industrialization in Pakistan. Furthermore, his commercial interests also extended to trading, electrical contracting, and distribution by representing major European and International companies in South Asia.
As a staunch advocate of learning and development and professional management, he played a leading role in establishing the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, and was the Founding President of the Management Association of Pakistan (MAP).
As a prominent and active member of the Ismaili community, he was bestowed with the title of Vazir. He held numerous offices including, Trustee of Aga Khan University Hospital Foundation, Director and Trustee of the Aga Khan Central Education Board, Director and Trustee of Aga Khan Health Services, and Founder Chairman of the Aga Khan Conciliation and Arbitration Board for Pakistan.
In 1968, he was appointed as the Honorary Consul General of Greece, a prestigious appointment that he delivered with great honor and dignity. His meritorious efforts and commitment were recognized as he was awarded the “Order Of The Phoenix Of Greece” in 1989 by the Greek Government, which remains one of the highest honors bestowed upon honorary persons.

A lover of horses, he successfully owned and bred several winners of the classics in Pakistan racing including the Pakistan Derby, the Oaks, and the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup.
In his lifetime, he was the beloved and respected elder of the Chinoy family which was dispersed all over the world. His book “The Chinoys”, a biographical sketch of family members, was a major accomplishment, signifying his position as the unifying force of the family.
He passed away peacefully on 22nd January 1998 after a brief illness, leaving behind his beloved wife, two sons, two daughters, and thirteen grandchildren.
